John Riches was the son of Norman Riches, the Glamorgan stalwart and perhaps one of the finest batsmen the club has ever produced.

 

John Riches was educated at Repton before the Second World War, and then in 1947 the right-handed batsman and left-arm spinner made his Glamorgan debut, playing against Yorkshire at Sheffield.

 

He then went into the legal world, but led the county`s 2nd XI until 1954. He played regularly for Cardiff, the M.C.C. and the Forty Club.
