Brief profile of Nigel Cowley
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:NGC Cowley

Nigel Cowley had a long and successful career as a right-handed batsman and off-spinner with Hampshire between 1974 and 1989, before joining Glamorgan on a two year contract in 1990. His clever spin bowling and nagging accuracy had been a key factor behind Hampshire winning the Sunday League in 1986 and the Benson and Hedges Cup in 1988.

However, Cowley only played for Glamorgan for one summer as a pelvic injury meant that he was forced to retire from county cricket at the end of the 1990 season. He subsequently emigrated to South Africa with his family, but has returned to the English first-class game after having become an umpire.
