DateLine: 22nd July 2009

Australian Institute of Sports drubbed New Zealand Emerging Players by 190 runs in Brisbane. The home side came back from a defeat to India at the same venue yesterday by defeating a New Zealand side that included internationals like Peter Fulton and Tim Southee.

New Zealand's decision to field first backfired. Though Southee struck to have Australia 2 for 56 but then opener Rob Quiney (58) and Steven Smith ticked along. Quiney's dismissal at 88 gave New Zealand no respite as Smith and Matthew Wade joined to stitch a 92-run partnership. Wade, made 61 from 58 deliveries and Smith hit his maiden limited-overs century, finishing unbeaten on 125 from 114 balls.

The target of 301 looked way out of New Zealand's reach. Their best hope of coming anywhere closer shattered when Shaun Tait nabbed Fulton for 12 before Tasmanian allrounder James Faulkner ran through the middle order with splendid figures of 3 for 4 in five overs. New Zealand were finally bowled out for 110 in the 31st over, thereby falling way short by 190 runs.
