Event:England in Bangladesh 2009/10

DateLine: 15th March 2010

The English side thought that they could finish off the match in quick time when they reduced the Bangladeshi side to 110 for 5 before they met staunch resistance from Junaid Siddique (68, 199b, 10x4) and Mushfiqur Rahim (47, 104b, 6x4). The pair displayed admirable patience and some beautiful strokes as the English bowlers failed to dislodge them. At stumps the Bangladeshi score read 191 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Resuming the day at 131 for 5 with Bell(39 not out, 55b, 1x6, 4x4) and Prior (7, 15b, 1x4) the English side looked to accelerate the scoring. That resulted in gifting the Bangladeshi side a few cheap wickets. Swann (32, 25, 3x4) used the long handle as he along with the elegant Bell pushed the lead past 500 run mark and once Swann was dismissed skipper Cook declared.

The Bangladeshi side had two options before: either make a heroic dash towards the target of 513 or dead bat themselves for two and a half days to save the Test. For the English side time was something that they had at luxury.

The second-string English bowlers led by Bresnan then proceeded to clinically rip apart the Bangladeshi batting side. At 110 for 5 it seemed all over the hosts before Junaid Siddique joined forces with Mushfiqur Rahim and the duo set about repairing the innings. The pair did well to take the side to 191 for the loss of 5 wickets before stumps were drawn.
