Prosper Utseya has resigned from the post of captaincy after a disastrous T20 World Cup in the West Indies. All-rounder Elton Chigumbura has been named as the captain of the Zimbabwe cricket team.

Soon after returning from the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies, Utseya handed over his resignation to the Zimbabwe Cricket.

Utseya, 25, captained Zimbabwe for nearly four years from May 2006, which includes 67 ODIs and all of the 10 Twenty20 international matches the African country has played so far.

Given his experience as an economical off-spinner, Utseya is likely to be retained in the team and he himself has hinted at his availability as a player in his resignation letter.

Following Utseya’s resignation, Zimbabwe Cricket has appointed Chigumbura as the skipper for the home tri-series against India and Sri Lanka starting May 28.
