"Altaf has been appointed director cricket operations who will be in-charge of all cricketing issues and would represent Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) at International Cricket Council and Asian Cricket Council meetings," a PCB statement said on Saturday.
Altaf, a 59-year-old former fast bowler, played 21 Tests and six one-day internationals for Pakistan in the 1970s.
The post had been lying vacant since Raja, a former captain of the national side, resigned in August last year.
A five-member committee consisting of Altaf, former Test wicket-keeper Imtiaz Ahmed, Naseem Ashraf, Mueen Afzal and Ali Reza, was also announced to assist the board.(Article: Copyright © 2005 AFP)
