Hampshire had Stevens as a given man. The identity of J Wood is not certain, but it is assumed to be Wood of Kent in view of the strong Kent flavour of the England team. J Wells, on debut for Hampshire, must be James: John Wells (b 1768) does not appear until 1787. SB reports that 'the match was put off, on account of bad weather, and never resumed': a rare departure from the normal practice of playing to a finish.
