Northumberland won this even-scoring match by 12 runs on the second day, after setting Norfolk a target of 133 runs for victory. When the ninth Norfolk wicket fell at 102, 31 runs were still needed to win. Mack and Shore added 18 of those before Mack was run out and the visitors had won. The Norfolk debutant Worman top-scored in the match with 32. Showers interrupted play on the second day. The run margin of victory was the closest of the season. The 4 catches held by Smith, the Norfolk debutant, in the Northumberland first innings equalled the record for the competition for a fielder held by H P Justice of Oxfordshire v Wiltshire at Trowbridge in 1896. The difference between the highest and the lowest of the four innings was only 8 runs.
