Suffolk won this close match by one wicket on the second day amongst reported scenes of considerable excitement amongst the spectators present and the Suffolk team in particular. When the last batsman, Goldsmith, came to the wicket in the Suffolk second innings, 9 runs were still needed for victory. The winning runs came with a boundary bye bowled by Wharmby. 'A wretched light and a strong wind made batting difficult at the start of
the second day'. For the winners, Trudgett took 7 wickets for 56 runs in the Bedfordshire second innings. The debutant Hollings made Suffolk's highest score with 42 in the first innings. For Bedfordshire, Wharmby took 12 wickets in the match for 109 runs, including 7 for 70 in the Suffolk first innings. Thring's 79 in the second innings was the highest score in the match..
