Norfolk, who were the strong favourites, won this play-off for the Championship title by an innings and 150 runs at 5.30 pm on the second day. Three days had been put aside for this match, but the third one was not required. It was the third time Norfolk had won the competition, having done so jointly with Durham and Worcestershire in 1895, and solely in 1905. The feature of the Norfolk's performance was G A Stevens's 201, which was the highest score of the season and the only double-century. His 201 runs was also the highest match run aggregate by a batsman during the season. Going in at the fall of the first wicket, he was eighth out. His innings lasted for 3 hours and forty minutes and included 30 fours, 2 threes and 18 twos. N W Stevens's 57 contained 6 fours. In the Norfolk innings, the Stevens brothers added 88 runs for the eighth wicket and N W Stevens and Fulcher 60 for the ninth. Allsopp took 8 wickets in the match for 57 runs and Raikes 7 for 82. For the losers, Nepean top-scored with 40. In the Berkshire first innings, Nepean and Whichelow put on 50 runs for the eighth wicket. Hawksworth's 45.2 overs in the Norfolk innings were the most bowled in the season. The 136 runs conceded by Woodburn in the Norfolk innings were the second highest during the season.
