Norfolk won this return match by nine wickets shortly after 4 pm on the second day. It was Bedfordshire's first defeat of the season and effectively marked the end of their hopes of winning the North and East Division. The match between the two sides at Bedford in July had been drawn. For the winners, there were 8 fours and 1 six and 5 fours respectively in Falcon's two innings of 61 and 51 not out. Stevens's 58 not out included 8 fours and Birkbeck's 50 contained 5 fours. In the Norfolk second innings Stevens and Falcon had an undefeated partnership of 102 runs to take Norfolk to victory. For the losers, Orr scored 60 which included 8 fours, Wharmby 53 which contained 2 sixes and 5 fours, and Bocquet 52 not out. A curious incident reported in the local press occurred in the Norfolk second innings when Collinson injured his finger when the score was 38 for the loss of one wicket. A small piece of rubber on the handle of Collinson's bat became partly detached and he asked the umpire to cut it away. In doing so the knife slipped and cut the end of a finger on Collinson's left hand. It was a small cut, but it bled rather freely and, as it could not be stopped for several minutes Collinson was replaced by Stevens.
