Player: | WH Ponsford |
Bill Ponsford was a fine batsman whose run scoring feats were to a certain extent eclipsed by those of his contemporary, Don Bradman. He was a steady, if unspectacular bat, and was capable of amassing huge scores. He was perhaps at his best in Australia. He usually opened the innings. He made five centuries against England, the first in 1924, and the last in 1934. With Bradman he put on 451 for the second wicket at the Oval in 1934, and remains the only player to score two first-class quadruple centuries.
