Scorecard:Sri Lanka v West Indies

  • Dilhara Fernando became the 27th Sri Lankan and 267th player overall in ODIs to appear in 50 or more matches.
  • Aravinda de Silva, who was appearing in his 30th World Cup match, has equalled the record held by former teammate Arjuna Ranatunga, for maximum caps by a Sri Lankan in the World Cup.
  • The unbeaten 50 run-partnership between Russel Arnold and Chaminda Vaas was Sri Lanka’s best for the seventh wicket against all teams in the World Cup. The pair obliterated the previous record stand of unbeaten 41 between Romesh Kaluwitharana and Vaas against Zimbabwe at Worcester in 1999.
  • When he claimed the wicket of S. Chanderpaul, Aravinda de Silva became the sixth Sri Lankan bowler and the 63rd bowler overall in ODIs to capture 100 or more wickets.
  • By reaching the above landmark in 303 matches, de Silva took maximum matches among all the 63 bowlers to do so. Previously India’s Sachin Tendulkar took 268 matches to reach this milestone in 2001.
  • de Silva (9083 runs + 100 wickets) became the 28th allrounder in ODIs to score over 1000 runs and take 100 wickets. He also became only the second allrounder after Sachin Tendulkar (11917 runs + 110 wickets in 308 matches) to do the rare 9000-plus runs and 100-plus wickets.
  • Chaminda Vaas’ 4 for 22 was the second best bowling performance by a Sri Lankan bowler against West Indies after the 5-58 by Sanath Jayasuriya at Port-of-Spain in 1997. However Vaas’ performance was the best by a Sri Lankan against West Indies in a World Cup match bettering 4-57 by Chandika Hathurusingha at Berri in 1992.
  • This was Sri Lanka’s eighth win over the West Indies in the last 11 ODIs since January 1996. However this was West Indies’ first loss to Sri Lanka in five World Cup matches.
