Player: | MJ Llewellyn |
In 1977 Mike Llewellyn almost joined a small band of players to have hit a ball over the Pavilion at Lord`s. His big-hitting feat came during Glamorgan`s first, and so far only appearance in a one day final at Lord`s, as they played Middlesex in the 1977 Gillette Cup Final. The free hitting left-hander had already struck a six of the bowling of Mike Gatting, and his next six off the bowling of John Emburey ended up in the gutter of the top tier of the Lord`s pavilion.

In 1970 Llewellyn had made his county debut, aged 16 years and 202 days, as a batsman and off-spinner against Oxford University at Oxford in 1970, and in 1972 he became the club`s youngest centurion with an innings of 112* against Cambridge University at Swansea aged just 18 years and 213 days. These innings against the undergraduates led some critics into forecasting a bright future for the stocky left-hander, but Llewellyn found life harder in Championship cricket, and despite playing some forceful innings during the mid 1970`s, he only struck one century against another county.
Llewellyn left the Glamorgan staff at the end of 1982, and went on to play Minor County cricket for Wiltshire.
