Brief profile of Graig Ground, Briton Ferry
by Dr.A.K.Hignell - Hon Statistician and Historian to Glamorgan CCC

Ground:Graig Ground, Briton Ferry

Briton Ferry is a small industrial settlement to the south of Neath, and like many towns in South Wales it was a successful steel-making centre during the last century. The influx of well-to-do migrants and the financial support of the industrialists led to the creation of two cricket teams in the town - Briton Ferry Town and Briton Ferry Steel.

During the Second World War, Glamorgan staged two exhibition games to raise money for the War effort at the Graig ground belonging to the Briton Ferry Steelworks club. The scores were as follows:

September 16th, 1944
Glamorgan (172-6d) beat West of England (138) by 34 runs

June 16th, 1945 Glamorgan (271-9d) beat Western Command (68) by 203 runs
