Had it not been for a serious back injury, Moseley might have become one of the most successful overseas fast bowlers in county cricket. The West Indian had joined Glamorgan in 1980 as a raw 22 year old who had impressed in club cricket in his native Barbados, but had yet to play any first-class experience. It looked as if Glamorgan`s bold gamble had paid off as Moseley took seven wickets on his Championship debut on a slow Swansea wicket, and finished the season with 51 victims to his name.

 

He consolidated on this headway the following season with a further 52 at just 18 apiece, plus a hat-trick against Kent in their Benson and Hedges Cup match in 1981. However, his finest performance in 1981 came again at Swansea, where he took 6-23 against the Australian tourists, and despite the sluggish wicket, confirmed his ability to trouble Test class batsmen with his speed and swerve through the air. But just as many observers were predicting a bright future for the West Indian, he broke down in 1982 with a stress fracture in his back, which required surgery and a long spell on the sidelines.

 

With uncertain medical reports over his long-term future, Glamorgan hired Winston Davis as Moseley`s replacement, before opting for batsman Javed Miandad as their overseas player. After plenty of rest, Moseley modified his action and run-up, and returned to the U.K. as a professional in the Lancashire Leagues.

 

In 1986 Moseley briefly re-appeared for the Welsh county following an injury to Miandad, and in 1990 he turned down an offer from Surrey to be their overseas player, preferring instead to continue as a professional in the Lancashire Leagues.
