Kamal Somaia was born in London, before his East African parents moved to India, and then at the age of seven Somaia was brought up in Australia.

 

The graduate of Melbourne University showed promise as a left-arm spinner and in the late 1980`s he had trials with various English counties whilst playing in League cricket in Yorkshire and Staffordshire.

 

He joined Glamorgan`s staff in 1989 and appeared in three Championship matches.
