Brief profile of Peter Swart
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:PD Swart

Peter Swart was Glamorgan`s overseas player in 1978 and 1979, and the Rhodesian all-rounder proved a useful acquisition, especially in one-day games, where his abilities as a hard-hitting batsman and medium pace bowler were particularly useful, drawing on his many years of experience in Lancashire League cricket as well as in domestic cricket in South Africa for Western Province.

He also made valuable contributions in Championship matches, passing a thousand runs in first-class games in 1978, and striking four centuries, including a career best 122 against Worcestershire at Swansea.

1978 and 1979 were rather unproductive seasons for the Welsh county, and had Swart joined Glamorgan in better times, Swart might have enjoyed an even more successful, and longer, career in the county game. He subsequently returned to play in domestic cricket in South Africa, before retiring in 1985, but not before becoming one of the few players to complete the Currie Cup career double of over 2,000 runs and 200 wickets.
