'Tip' Williams was a member of a well-known sporting family from the Vale of Glamorgan.

 

Educated at the Oratory School, Williams was a leading light in the world of cricket and hunting in the Cowbridge area, and he was the founder in 1926 of the South Wales Hunts C.C.

 

He was a forceful right-handed batsman who played in four first-class matches for Glamorgan between 1928 and 1930, with Williams hitting an uneaten 53 against Oxford University at The Parks in 1928.

 

Williams was a close friend of both Johnnie Clay and Maurice Turnbull, and through his contacts with clubs and wandering elevens, Williams was able to recommend various amateurs to the Glamorgan officials. It was also as a result of his friendship with Glamorgan`s influential captain and secretary that the county staged first-class cricket at the Cowbridge ground in the early 1930`s.
