Brief profile of Jonathan Hughes
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:J Hughes

Jonathan Hughes made his first-class debut for Glamorgan in 2001, having impressed as a schoolboy playing for the Hopkinstown club.

In 1997 at the age of 16, Hughes made his 2nd XI debut for Glamorgan, and he spent the following year on the M.C.C. groundstaff. Some excellent performances for the county's 2nd XI in the next couple of years, resulted in his inclusion in Glamorgan's 1st team.

Hughes began in the county's middle-order, but in 2003 he moved up to open the batting and in 2004 he recorded his maiden Championship century against Leicestershire at Cardiff.

In 2005 Hughes scored 134* and 100* in the match against Middlesex at Southgate, but he failed to pass fifty in his other 23 Championship innings, and was released from the Glamorgan staff at the end of the summer.
