Brief profile of Dick Horsfall
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:R Horsfall

Dick Horsfall joined Glamorgan in 1956 after a nine year career with Essex during which he had won his county cap in 1948 and had struck a double century against Kent in 1951. In 1953 the Yorkshire-born right-hander had recorded the fastest century of the season, with a hundred in just 85 minutes against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

During his time with Essex, Horsfall had been plagued by back problems and a reoccurrence of these niggles in 1954, plus a loss of form, eventually resulted in his release by Essex in 1955. Given his experience, Glamorgan were pleased to sign him for 1956 but after just 5 appearances, Horsfall had further health problems and was forced to retire from the first-class game.
