Brief profile of Arthur Francis
by Dr.A.K.Hignell

Player:DA Francis

Arthur Francis was another one of the talented young Welsh cricketers to spend time on the M.C.C. groundstaff in the early 1970`s.

The right-handed batsman from Clydach made his first-class debut in 1973, and after success in Glamorgan`s middle-order, he moved up to the number three spot. During his career he struck three centuries in first-class cricket, as well as a fine hundred against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in a televised Sunday League match in 1980.

1982 was Francis` most successful season, during which he was awarded his county cap. He passed a thousand runs for the only time in his career, and also struck a career-best 142* against Kent at Canterbury. He failed to recapture this form in subsequent seasons, and left staff the county`s staff at the end of the 1984 season
