PARFITT, James John Alexander.
Amateur.
Born at Blwch Villa, near Brecon, Breconshire, 23rd December 1857.
Died at Wimbledon, Surrey, 17th May 1926.
He was educated at Prior Park College, Bath, and at London University. He played cricket for Surrey in eight matches 1881-82 and Somerset in six matches 1883-85, 14 first-class matches in all. In 1886 he played for Warwickshire. At one time he was a tutor at Lord Petres School, Wooburn Park, Weybridge, Surrey and later for about three years at Cardinal Newmans School at the Oratory, Edgbaston, Birmingham. In 1887 he was called to the Bar and he practised on the Midland Circuit, taking silk in 1908. In 1917 he became a Bencher of the Middle Temple. He was Recorder of Nottingham 1916-18 and County Court Judge, Leeds and Wakefield, Circuit No.14, 1918-21. From then until his death he was Judge of the County Court Circuit No.41, at Clerkenwell.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was living at the home of his brother-in-law Joseph Day, aged 25, a mechanical engineer, at 9 Devonshire Buildings, Wells Road, Lyncombe and Widcombe, Somerset. Also present was Josephs wife Margaret A., aged 27, born Brecon, and their son Thomas S.J. aged 9 months. He is unmarried, aged 23, born at Brecon, a tutor.
