RAYNBIRD, Walter.
Amateur.
Born at Basingstoke, Hampshire, 1st June 1854.
Died at Hackwood Park, Hampshire, 6th May 1891.
The son of Hugh E. Raynbird, steward and land agent, surveyor and auctioneer, of Hackwood Park, Basing, Hampshire. His brother, Robert, played in one match for Hampshire in 1878. Walter played in two matches for Hampshire, 1880 and 1881. Hugh E. Raynbird was a keen cricketer and he founded the Hackwood Park cricket club and with members of his family formed the Grasshopper’s Club. For forty years he held the management of Lord Bolton’s estates.
There is no trace of Walter in the 1881 Census but Hugh E., aged 55, is living at Hackwood Park, Basing, with his wife Helen S., aged 51, Their sons Robert, aged 29, land agent and surveyor, Albert, aged 19, a solicitors articled clerk, Edward, aged 19, a pupil and land agent, and Arthur, aged 14, are present, as are their unmarried daughters, Helen aged 23, Agnes aged 22, and Lucy aged 13 and a nephew, Walter Careless, aged 16. There are two domestic servants.
