RYLOTT, Arnold.
Professional.
Born at Grantham, Lincolnshire, 18th February 1839.
Died at Sandy, Bedfordshire, 17th April 1914.
He first went out as a professional in 1867 at the Birkenhead Club, where he stayed for three years. He was at Grantham 1870-71 and in 1872 became a member of the ground staff at Lords, eventually becoming head of the staff. His debut in first-class cricket was for Left Handed in 1870, but most of his 85 first-class matches were for the MCC. His county cricket was for Leicestershire 1875-90 in their pre first-class days and he also played a game for Staffordshire in 1877. In the winter he was a gamekeeper, but he also was known to be a poacher. He supplemented his income by making a potent home-made snuff which he sold to his fellow professionals. He published a book of verse entitled Our Bobby Rykitt when a Boy.
In 1881 Census he was in Leavesden jail, St Albans.
