Scorecard: | Kent v Lancashire |
Summary for Day 3
Another hot and humid day, and yet another day dominated by Lancashire. All the players chipped in with useful runs so that Lancashire's overall lead passed the psychological 400 barrier by late afternoon. Anyone who assumed that Kent would "roll-over" quickly, soon changed their mind as the hosts eased to 79 for 1. However, a stunning catch, a good delivery, and a poor shot shortly before the close put Lancashire on course for victory - please do not rain again!
Bowling Performance of the Day
Two wickets from Gary Keedy during the final session of the day enabled Lancashire to take a strong hold on the game. Keedy's second wicket (That of Smith caught and bowled) was particularly important and satisfying, especially as a similar opportunity was put down 20 overs previous.
Batting Performance of the Day
Mal Loye and Stuart Law added 61 runs in just 15 overs at the beginning of the days play. Loye was particularly aggressive. Hooper's innings was a mixture of aggression and caution. Flintoff scored a quick fire 43 from 56 balls. However, Law's innings was the best of the day with 39 runs added to his overnight score - he knitted the middle order of the innings together and built a firm foundation for the incoming players.
Fielding Performance of the Day
Carl Hooper's stunning one handed catch at second slip (High to his right) was brilliant. Overall, Lancashire's ground fielding was very good. Also worthy of a mention was Mark Chilton's catch in close on the leg side to remove Carberry - he dived forward and held the ball just above ground.
Highlights of the Day
- Mal Loye's sparkling 86
- Achieving a lead in excess of 400
- Capturing four top order wickets before the close of play.
- The thunderstorms and rain stayed away - it poured 30 minutes after the close of play.
Lowlight of the Day
The run out of Sajid Mahmood - Lancashire's running between the wickets has been very hesitant at times. Mahmood backed-up way too far and was unable to return to the non-strikers end in time.
Contentious Discussion Point of the Day
Carberry attempted a quick single after Fulton pushed the ball in to the covers - Keedy's direct hit removed middle stump - The appeal was loud and confident, but umpire Burgess did not oblige. It was very close and the players were disappointed. Fortunately, Carberry was dismissed without scoring.
