Match report day 4: Lancs v Kent in Championship 2004
by Neil Adams

Scorecard:Lancashire v Kent

Summary of day 4

This has to go down as the most boring days play of the season. A 90 minute delay due to a wet bowlers run up at the Stretford end merely acted as a platform for lacklustre batting and mediocre bowling. A chilling wind acted as the icing on the cake. After 30 minutes play, the players departed to the pavilion for lunch - cricket at its most pathetic (99 for 6). 75 minutes into the afternoon session, Lancashire were dismissed for 184. No batting points were attained, not that they were remotely deserved. Mongia (41) and Cork (28) averted the follow on in the 2nd over after lunch. Peter Martin added a spirited personal tally of 33 including a six over the top of the wicket keeper and remained unbeaten when the innings closed.

David Fulton edged the first ball of Kent's second innings to Haynes, and Robert Key (18) was stumped by Haynes with the 5th ball after tea (32-2). Dinesh Mongia, who was totally under used as a bowler removed Loudon (35) with what turned out to be the last ball of the match. Less than 100 people witnessed it. Lancashire have just 3 games left to turn things around, or accept the drop to division two. The seven points attained from this clash were neither use, nor ornament.
