James Hopes is now Australia’s regulars in their ODI plans as he has played crucial roles with both bat and ball. A hard hitting lower order batsman he has opened the Australian innings when needed and with a military medium pace he has effected some crucial breakthroughs when the opposition is threatening to run away with the match. His favourite shot is a flowing cover-drive though it has more brute force than elegance when compared to some of the modern greats. A reliable fielder anywhere in the field adds his value to the Australian side which is recovering from the losses of its giants to retirements.
