Chris Gayle gave Ireland a cricketing lesson at The Oval in their second ICC World Twenty20 warm up game.

The 29-year-old West Indies captain struck a series of savage boundaries, as his side chased down a modest Irish total of 130, winning with exactly four overs to spare.

Gayle hit seven sixes and six fours in his unbeaten 88 from just 55 balls. The West Indies innings was dominated by a series of boundaries, with 13 fours and seven sixes, 94 runs in total.

Gayle entertained the sizeable crowd with a flurry of strokes, dominating partnerships of 55 for the opening wicket with Andre Fletcher (19), and an unbroken second wicket stand of 79 in just 8.4 overs with Ramnaresh Sarwan (25 not out).

Kyle McCallan was the solitary wicket taker for Ireland, having Fletcher caught by Boyd Rankin at point following an ugly heave.

Earlier, Ireland were disappointing with their total of 130/7, as too many of their batsmen capitulated after getting starts.

Jeremy Bray top scored with 30 from 29 balls, with John Mooney (23), Niall O’Brien (22) and Kevin O’Brien (20)all looking impressive in their stays at the crease.

Fidel Edwards (1-13) bowled with great fire, but it was giant frame of spinner Sulieman who troubled the Irish most, claiming the wickets of Bray and Botha to finish with figures of 2 for 24.

Ireland have confirmed that they will be taking on South Africa at Southgate in an extra fixture on Thursday.
