Australia spin legend Shane Warne slammed Andrew Symonds for getting himself involved into another controversy.

 

However the champion spinner also hoped the swashbuckling all-rounder would be back in the national squad soon.

 

Symonds was sent back from the ICC World T20 after having been accused of being involved in an alcohol related incident.

 

"The situation with Symonds is very bad. It seems that playing for Australia is not as important to him as it once was. He has let himself and everyone else down," said the leg-spinner.

 

"But I hope this is not the end for him because he is such a talent," Warne said in his column in The Times.

 

Warne though is happy to see the growing influence of spinners in Twenty20 cricket, often considered as only to be a batsmen's game. He also felt that the failure to tackle the slow bowlers was one of the prime reasons behind Australia's early exit from the World Cup.

 

"I've been pleased to see the influence of spin in the competition and thought that Australia should have gone with Nathan Hauritz against the West Indies," he said.

 

"A lot of the teams are using two specialist spinners, even England, and it was Ajantha Mendis who started to peg back Australia on Monday. Our guys are just not playing spin too well at the moment. I am sure the England selectors will have noticed," Warne said.

 

"Twenty20 was supposedly designed to be a batsman's game, with balls flying to all parts. But one of the most basic principles holds true, that the best way to contain a side is to take wickets," he added.
