DateLine: 15th June 2009

Wavell Hinds denied Glamorgan a victory with his first championship century for Derbyshire. Croft, the former England off-spinner, finished with figures of four for 62 from 42 overs but Hinds hit an unbeaten 119 to help his side to a draw. Derbyshire declared on 294 for eight, a lead of 284, and although Glamorgan lost Gareth Rees and Ben Wright in the first five overs, Mark Cosgrove and Michael Powell made sure there were no further alarms as the visitors closed on 136 for two.

Glamorgan went into the final day scenting victory with Derbyshire only 132 runs in front with four wickets standing. Graham Wagg had scored only four when he edged Croft leave Derbyshire in trouble at 149 for seven. But Hinds dug in to frustrate Glamorgan's bowlers and along with Lungley guided Derbyshire closer to safety by stretching the lead past 200. Croft finally trapped Lungley lbw for 33 but the eighth-wicket association had put on 64 and had taken up nearly 25 overs and with it crucial time. Hinds then joined forces with Tim Groenewald and added an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 81. Hinds reached his just before the declaration came. He faced 292 balls for his 119.

Glamorgan were left with an improbable victory target of 285 from a minimum of 49 overs and any ambitions they might have had vanished as Wagg reduced them to 10 for two. Rees was dismissed for a duck and then Wright was cleaned up in the fifth over, Derbyshire sensed an opening which was quickly shut by Consgrove as he took his team to safety.
