Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzaq took scalped four West Indian wickets as Bangladesh won the first one-day international by 52 runs.

 

The only time when the hosts looked like defying the inevitable was when Devon Smith was batting. The Windward Islands batsman made 65 from 84 balls.

 

David Bernard also threatened for a while with a good 38 but the target of 247 was never really within reach and the Windies were eventually bowled out for 194 from only 43.4 overs.

 

The home side made a dreadful start, with both openers back in the pavilion with the score on eight.

 

Then the skipper also fell for three and with the wicket of Travis Dowlin, the scoreboard read 42 for the loss of four wickets.

 

Then Smith and Bernard put together a fruitful partnership of 78 for the fifth wicket but Smith's departure, signalled the end for the Caribbean side.

 

Bernard then followed the left-hander and the tail failed to wag as Bangladesh cruised to a comfortable win.

 

Earlier for Bangladesh, Mohammad Ashraful and Shakib hit half-centuries as Bangladesh set the Windies a victory target that was to prove elusive.

 

The tourists recovered well after losing Tamim Iqbal to the first ball of the match. Ashraful and Junaid Siddique then put on 74 for the second wicket. Ashraful led the way with 57 while Shakib later chipped in with a useful 54 as the Bangladesh batsmen dodged the rain.

 

Mahmudullah's quick knock of 42 from 39 balls gave the tourist the impetus that was needed in the middle order but the tail struggled to make a significant contribution as Bangladesh racked up 246 for nine from their 50 overs.
