Event:Champions League 2009/10

DateLine: 17th October 2009

In the end it was a cakewalk for Cape Cobras as they won the encounter against Victoria Bushrangers with ease. Chasing a par score of 126 in 17 overs, the South African side got to the target in 16 overs. The Victorian side had a poor start with the bat, while the Cobras seized the momentum in the chase courtesy to Brand's quickfire 29. Davids then took over, making 69 while Duminy supported him well with a steady 18 in an unbeaten 88-run stand.

Security concerns caused the match to be delayed for more than one hour and once the match got underway, it was reduced to 17 overs a side.

White won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that promised runs. The Victorian innings was rocked in the very first over when Zondeki removed both the openers Quiney and Hodge with nothing on the board within three balls. Quiney swung the game's first delivery to fine leg, and Hodge was bowled by the ball that nipped back in as the Victorian scorecard read 0 for 2 in 0.3 overs. Aiden Blizzard began the counterattack as he found the midwicket boundary, played a perfect straight-drive and then lofted one over mid-on to kick-start the Victorian innings. Kleniveldt ended Blizzard's innings as he foxed the batsman with a slower delivery which he lobbed to extra cover.

The spin pair of Claude Henderson and JP Duminy tied down Victoria with some accurate spin bowling. David Hussey and captain Cameron White put on a useful 32 and just when the batsmen began to shift their gears Duminy removed Hussey to terminate a promising partnership. Cameron White holed out in 14th over and the pair Wade and McDonald propelled the Victorian innings as they piled on 31 runs in the final three overs.

Cobras in reply lost the wicket of their skipper Puttick when he clipped a leg side delivery from Siddle straight to McDonald at midwicket. David Brand tore into a wayward Harwood as they collected 16 runs in the third over to stun the Australian side. He continued his assault as he turned his sights on Siddle to push up the run-rate as 26 runs came in two overs to turn the tide in Cobras' favour. White brought McKay into the attack and the bowler responded with an excellent piece of fielding. David Brand dropped the ball near his feet and after a second or two of hesitation set off for a run but McKay was quick enough to react as he produced a direct hit to run out Brand.

Davids was then joined by Duminy and the pair ran the Victorians ragged with some excellent running. Davids kept the required run-rate within their grasp with some lusty blows while Duminy was content to take the singles and turn the strike over. Blizzard had a poor time in the field as he misjudged a catch off Henry Davids, let a boundary go through his legs and then dropped a sitter running in from long-on with the batsman once again being Davids. The pair added 88 runs in 11.3 overs to seal the match for the Cobras.
