Ross Taylor blasted New Zealand to a comprehensive win over an undercooked Bangladeshi side to seal the three match series. The Bangladeshi innings at one stage was in tatters at 46 for 6 but Mushfiqur Rahim with a well paced innings of 86 revived the innings to help Bangladesh post 183 in 50 overs. But that total looked like peanuts as Ross Taylor tore into the Bangladeshi bowling.

 

Daniel Vettori won the toss and elected to field first trusting his seam bowlers to utilise the early morning assistance.

 

Two match old McKay struck in the second over of the match as he removed Bangladesh's most consistent batsman Tamim Iqbal (1, 6 balls) in the recent times. Imrul Kayes (9, 13 balls, 1x4) and Mohammad Ashraful (1, 18 balls) never looked comfortable in the middle as they failed to come with any sort of answer to the swing and seam that Tuffey and McKay generated. Kayes was finally undone by a sharp piece of fielding while Ashraful was caught and bowled brilliantly by Tuffey. With the Bangladeshi innings in a strife the visitors banked on their skipper Shakib al Hasan to deliver. But McKay's inswinger at 142 ks was a bit too much for the Bangladeshi skipper to handle as he was cleaned up for a duck.

 

Aftab Ahmed (10, 27 balls, 2x4) in the vefy next over played a loose shot to be dismissed and Mahmadullah after fighting hard for 32 balls to score 8 runs was run-out. That fall of the wicket brought together Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam as the duo opted for wait and watch approach. With the batsmen opting for a defensive ploy the Kiwi bowlers went through their overs without facing much music. Vettori bowled ten economical overs for just 25 runs while McKay finished with excellent figures of 10-3-17-2.

 

The pair of Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam slowly but steadily began to repair the damaged innings. The pair rotated the strike well and also struck some lusty blows to inject some momentum into the innings that was literally in tatters. The pair added 101 runs in 24.5 overs before Butler intervened. Naeem Islam (43, 81 balls, 4x4) had no answer to a brilliant yorker from Butler while Mushfiqur Rahim (86, 107 balls, 3x6, 8x4) was trapped leg before by the same bowler in the last over. Shahadat Hossain (16 not out, 7 balls, 1x6, 2x4) then wielded the long handle in the final three balls to take the visitors score to 183 for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.

 

Chasing a below par total of 184 to seal the series, the hosts lost an aggressive McCullum (9, 6 balls, 1x4) early to Shafiul Islam. Peter Ingram (28, 49 balls, 4x4) was joined at the crease by the talented Guptill (32, 29 balls, 4x4, 1x6) who was in some sort of hurry from ball number one. The Kiwi batsmen never at any stage looked in any sort of trouble as they toiled hard with little help.

 

Though Ingram and Guptill failed to go on and make huge score as both fell to loose shots. Ross Taylor (78, 51 balls, 5x6, 6x4) was in blistering mood as he went about walloping the Bangladeshi bowlers with extreme disdain. None of the bowlers escaped the punishment meted out by Taylor as he along with Franklin (20 not out, 29 balls, 1x4) put on a scintillating partnership of 79 in 8.3 overs. Though Shafiul removed Taylor and Broom (0, 1 ball) quickly it was mere formality for Vettori to pull Rubel Hossain to fine-leg to take home the series.
