The West Indian bowlers put up a better performance but their batsmen were denied a chance at the glory when rain interrupted the play. The tourists now will have to win the final two matches to level the five-game series.

Gayle called correctly at the toss and elected to bowl first on a track that was bound to get slower and lower as the match progressed. The Australian side made three changes as Adam Voges and Tim Paine opened the innings. The openers did not last long as the pair could put on just 30 for the first wicket before the first wicket fell. The Windies bowlers were right on target as none of the Australian batsmen could find any sort of fluency.

A depleted bowling attack led by Rampaul was able to put a lid on the to order batsmen. Michael Clarke (46, 74 balls, 1x4) was the top-scorer with the usual late hustle and bustle provided by Hussey (44, 53 balls, 2x4). Just when it seemed that the Australians would be settling for a target of 205 or so Ryan Harris (21, 9 balls, 1x6, 3x4) used the long handle to good effect to push the score to 225. Rampaul who bowled extremely well was taken for 18 runs in his last over.

The Windies in reply could face only one over before the heavens opened up. Though the play resumed with the target reduced to 151 in 24 overs it rained heavily to force the officials to call off the play.
