The Indian side out-gunned new comers Afghanistan with relative ease as they cruised to a seven wicket win. With this win they have assured themselves a place in the super eights. Afghanistan in their 20 overs scored 115 for 8. India in reply scaled the target in 14.5 overs.

Dhoni after winning the toss elected to bat first hoping that his seamers will use the conditions well. Praveen Kumar opted for a fuller length while Nehra went for the bouncers. Karim Sadiq (0, 4b) and Mohammad Shahzad (6, 5b, 1x4) fell to well directed bouncers as Nehra was on a song. Spinner Jadeja too got into the act as he removed skipper Nowroz Mangal (5, 11b, 1x4) as the Afghan innings stuttered. Opener Noor Ali (50, 48b, 4x4) and Asghar Stanikzai (30, 33b, 3x6) played well to tackle the Indian spinners well forcing Dhoni to turn to his pacemen.

Nehra continued his bouncer barrage and Praveen Kumar followed the suit. The innings finally closed at 115 for the loss of 8 wickets and could have been much worse.

India in reply got off to a flier as Murali Vijay went after the bowling in the first over. Gambhir (4, 6b) failed to get going but Murali Vijay continued his golden run from the IPL 2010. The right-hander missed his maiden T20 fifty and the innings closed with a flurry from MS Dhoni.
