Abdul Razzaq is likely to miss the pre Asia Cup training camp that will be held under the supervision of coaches Waqar Younis, Aaqib Javed and Ijaz Ahmed.

The commencement date and venue of the training camp have not yet been confirmed, but dates are due to be finalised in accordance with Waqar Younis' return to Pakistan from Australia.

Instead the hard hitting 30 year old all rounder who was part of the Sialkot Stallions squad that were crowned domestic Twenty/20 champions in Pakistan will be given permission by the Pakistan Cricket Board to play for Hampshire in the Friends Provident Twenty/20 competition. If Razzaq is selected for the Asia Cup he will then meet up with his Pakistani team mates in Sri Lanka direct from England, rather than taking part in the training camp.

PakPassion.net has been informed that Razzaq will be available for Hampshire right from the start of the English Twenty/20 domestic competition and will make his debut for the County on Thursday 3rd June against Kent at the Rose Bowl.

Speaking to PakPassion.net ; Abdul Razzaq's manager Umran Khan of Aces Middle East confirmed that everything was in place for Razzaq's arrival in the United Kingdom in the early part of next week.

"We've put everything in place for Razzaq to play for Hampshire right at the start of the Friends Provident Competition. All the documentation is ready, the necessary approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board has been obtained and the player himself is ready to do his best for Hampshire. We wanted to do our utmost to ensure that Razzaq was available for Hampshire right from the off, as it's important for them to get off to a good start".

Razzaq will therefore it seems arrive in Sri Lanka with match experience under his belt, as Hampshire have 5 matches between his arrival in the UK and Pakistan's first match in Dambulla against the hosts.

Razzaq has been quoted in the media recently stating that he is keen to restart his test career, having last featured in a test match for Pakistan in November 2006 and this is something that Umran echoed.

"We are trying to negotiate a deal with Hampshire for Razzaq to play one day and four day cricket for Hampshire this season prior to Pakistan's tour of England. Razzaq has initially only signed for the twenty/20 competition, but if the deal goes through, this will mean that he'll get some four day cricket under his belt prior to the test series against England and Australia".
