Butt, Asif and Aamer dropped for rest of England tour by Abdul Shakeel

The meeting between pacers Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer, Salman Butt and Pakistan High Commissioner Mr Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan took place Thursday, September 02, 2010.

 

The High Commissioner said that discussions were held with the players they reiterated their innocence. He further added that they are suffering huge mental stress and have requested us that they do not want play against England for the rest of the matches on this tour.

 

Mr Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan said that the players' passports are with team Manager, Yawar Saeed and added if they are innocent we will give them full support and will go to court of law to defend them.

 

Chairman PCB Mr Ijaz Butt was not in the meeting and according to the High Commissioner he was on some other assignment

 

On a question if the ICC was putting pressure on Pakistan to drop these players for rest of the series? Mr Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan responded that there was no pressure from ICC and asked why they should they put pressure on us?

 

Another reporter asked that why the High Commissioner thinks they are innocent? In response Mr Wajid Shams-ul-Hasan said that investigations are still on and they are innocent till proven guilty, that's what law says.

 

Earlier, the Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed had said the three Pakistan players Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif who are under scrutiny in the spot-fixing controversy have been dropped from Pakistan squad for the rest of the England tour.
