Chairman PCB Mr. Ijaz Butt, Members of the PCB Governing Board, Chairperson PCB Womens Wing Mrs. Shireen Javed, PCB Management, and Distinguished guests gathered at the National Cricket Academy to honor the best Cricket umpire in the World Mr. Aleem Dar.

 

Chairman PCB Mr. Mohammad Ijaz Butt presented a souvenir and a cheque of Rs.500,000 to Mr. Aleem Dar on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

 

Aleem Dar has been voted as the ICC Elite Panel Umpire of the Year 2010, an honor that he first won last year. In doing so he has won laurels for Pakistan on the world stage and made the millions of Pakistani Cricket Fans proud.

 

Addressing the ceremony Aleem Dar said, "I would like to thank the PCB for their support and the Chairman for honoring me once again. Everything I have achieved is due to my being a Pakistani. I hope to continue to win laurels for the country".

 

In his comments at the ceremony Chairman PCB said," In times when we hear all sorts of stories an inspirational story like that of Aleem Dar lifts everyone's spirits. He has made Pakistan Cricket proud through his hard work and dedication to his profession. I wish him the all the success in the years to come".

 

Aleem Sarwar Dar was born in Jhang. He has played first class cricket and was a right handed batsman and leg break bowler. It was his love for the game of Cricket that led him to take up Umpiring as a profession. Having made his umpiring debut on February 16, 200 in Gujranwala, it took Mr. Dar just two years to become a member of the ICC's International Panel of Umpires. He stood in his first test match in October 2003 and in April 2004 he became the first Pakistani to be a part of the ICC Elite Umpires Panel. Mr. Dar was nominated in 2005 and 2006 for the Umpire of the year award as well and finally won it in 2009. He has stood in 60 test matches, 136 ODI's, and 17 T20 Internationals to date. He was chosen to stand in the 2007 World Cup Final as well as the 2010 ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

 

However while all the achievements mentioned are historic in their own right there are some sides of Aleem Dar the man which not many may be aware of. Aleem Dar was awarded the National "Pride of Performance" on August 14 this year as well. It is a measure of the man that upon receiving his pride of performance award he dedicated it to the millions of flood victims in the country and launched an appeal for People to come forward and help their fellow countrymen. He has been making door to door stops to raise funds and has used his substantial International Contacts to raise money and awareness of the flood victim's plight.

 

However the stature of the man does not end here. Since March 2009 Aleem Dar has been paying Rs 5,500 per month to the family of the Bus Driver who lost his life while transporting the match official's from the hotel to Gaddafi Stadium. Through his many generous and thoughtful actions Aleem Dar has proven himself as a worthy Role Model for millions of Pakistanis.
