DateLine: 26th February 2011

Just when it seemed that Bangladesh was consigned to another defeat the bowlers led by Shafiul Islam staged a dramatic comeback for the hosts to help them to a stunning win over Ireland. Electing to bat first the Bangladeshi side led by a fiery Tamim Iqbal posted a mediocore 205 in 49.2 overs. The Irish team in reply could manage just 178 in 45 overs.

Tamim Iqbal was untoppable as he found the boundary ropes regularly at the top of the order. The Irish bowlers did not know what hit them and they had no answer to stop the onslaught. Boundaries flowed in abundance as the team breached the 50 run mark in the seventh over before Kayes fell. That stemmed the run flow and soon wickets began to fall and that stunned the partisan vociferous Bangladeshi crowd. With the boundaries drying up the Bangladeshi batsmen began to get restless and that showed in their shot selections. The simple philosophy of rotating the strike was soon forgotten by the Bangladeshi batsmen as the Irish bowlers began to put a straitjacket on the home batsmen. In the end the Bangladeshi side scored a modest 205 in their 49.2 overs.

Ireland in reply never really dominated the hosts but a scent of a sweet win was always around the corner. None of the Irish batsmen barring KJ O'Brien never really stepped on the scoring up put a sense of panic in the Bangladeshi camp.

With the Irish side nearly across the line Shakib entrusted the ball to Shafiul Islam. The right-arm medium-pacer held his nerves to dents to the Irish batting line-up to derail their chase.

Ireland in 45 overs could manage just 178 to gift the hosts a 27 run win
