Event: | Scotland in England 1935 |
DateLine: 30th January 2013

After a two day match at Nottingham ended in a draw, Scotland's one day fixture with Sir Julien Cahn's XI had a similar result at Stamford Hall, near Loughborough, the residence of Sir Julien yesterday.
Scotland won the toss for the second time and batted first on a perfect wicket in picturesque surroundings. The brilliant innings of Jones, who opened the batting, was the chief feature of the day. When he reached his century he sent up the 200 in two hours and ten minutes, and nine bowling changes had then been tried.
Newman, the tenth bowler, took the new ball, and off his fifth delivery Jones was smartly stumped by Maxwell, who had not conceded an extra. Jones obtained 122 out of 280 in two hours and twenty minutes, and he found the boundary 14 times, besides hitting a six. He was missed in the slips at 56, but otherwise he gave no chance.
Newman, who bowls only occasionally, was again successful in his second over, sending back Bruce-Lockhart with two runs added. Stewart and Grieve punished the bowling, putting 62 on for the seventh wicket.
The innings was declared closed after lasting five minutes under three hours.
Sir Julien Cahn's team lost their first two wickets for 42 in thirty minutes. Eighty minutes were left to get 231 to win, which meant a rate of about three a minute. Rhodes and Vaulkhard set about the bowling, and put on 112 in just under the hour for the third wicket partnership. Vaulkhard, who was caught in the gully, hit ten 4's and one 6.
Rhodes went at 185, and two wickets then fell for the addition of five runs, when stumps were drawn.(Article: Copyright © 2013 Cricket Scotland http://cricketscotland.com)
