Scorecard: | Eton College v Scotland XI |
Event: | Scotland in England 1922 |
DateLine: 30th January 2013

At Agar's Plough, Eton on Saturday the College fielded a strong team, but opened play at 12.30 with extreme caution against the bowling of Sievwright and Anderson, being particularly careful to treat the latter's awkward medium deliveries with unusual respect. At the luncheon hour-1.30-50 was on the board.
Dawson gave an easy catch, which Angus dropped-an expensive error of judgement. Play was slow until Eton reached the century, when the players opened their shoulders and hit freely. GK Cox, the Eton captain, declared at 4.30.
Dawson was brilliantly caught in the long field by Anderson after being tempted by Kerr. Thumby's innings was marked by some clever strokes, which won rounds of applause. Kerr bowled him when he attempted to slash a ball which came in from the off.
The Scottish players' wickets fell quickly, and the collapse was quite sensational after what had been expected of them. No one seemed at ease before the Eton attack save Fergusson, who played with confidence and freedom.
At six o'clock a whirlwind drove across the ground, accompanied by a deluge of rain, which lasted 20 minutes, when the match was abandoned, the result being a draw.
Had the weather held out, there is little doubt that Eton would have dismissed the remaining batsmen by seven o'clock, the hour for drawing stumps.(Article: Copyright © 2013 Cricket Scotland http://cricketscotland.com)
