Media Release - 06 January 2005

The Chairman's reaction to Pakistans most recent 3-0 Test series defeat to Australia is as follows:
"Just like the rest of the country, we are disappointed with the team's heavy defeat in the recent Test series against Australia. A young team in the process of rebuilding was playing against not only the best team in the world, but also regarded as one of the best teams ever in the history of the game. Nevertheless, no excuses are made for this comprehensive defeat.
However, the positives we have gained are the performances of the younger players who have fought with great credit in extremely high pressure situations, especially Salman Butt, Yasir Hameed, Kamran Akmal and Danish Kaneria. Moreover, Younis Khan has established himself as a major batsman.
We were handicapped by genuine injuries that had affected our senior players like Inzamam, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Sami, Shoaib Malik and, in the last Test, Shoaib Akhtar.
The team will return battle-hardened and stronger in meeting high pressure situations. No emergency measures will be taken and the captain and coach will continue with Pakistan Cricket Board's full support."
