Clarification on news reports about coach, trainers short leave
by Pakistan Cricket Board

DateLine: 10th February 2005

This has reference to news reports that the foreign Coach, Trainer etc. left Pakistan dislocating physical rehabilitation programmes for Pakistani cricketers. It is clarified that the foreign Coach, Trainer and Physio were entitled to a short leave after a long and arduous tour to Australia. Pakistan team members have also been advised complete rest during the interregnum. Before leaving Australia for Pakistan each and every member of the Pakistan Team was given a specific training programme in writing to be followed before the commencement of the training camp at Lahore for the series with India.

PCB has already constituted a Medical Commission for the assessment of injuries sustained by players. Eminent medical specialists are available to any player requiring assistance. It may be noted that foreign trainers etc. would be back by 18 February while the team for India would be announced on the same day followed by an intensive training camp scheduled at Lahore from 19 to 23 February 2005. In other words the Coach and the foreign Trainers would be available to assess the players fitness.

Mr. Shoaib Akhtar's comment that he is in a quandary without the services of a professional trainer are misplaced. PCB's Coordinator for the Medical Commission is in constant touch with players facing fitness problems.
