Paul Borrington became the twentieth son to follow his father in Derbyshire colours when he made his debut in September 2005. His father Tony had been a stalwart of Derbyshire campaigns of the 1970s, playing over 100 First-class matches. Pauls debut at Grace Road gainst Leicestershire was unremarkable an edged four getting him off the mark but then being dismissed without scoring further. However, the flatter track of Taunton allowed him to make a patient 28 in his next outing, and with Derbyshire declaring on 707-7 he had played his part in the Peakites recording their highest ever First-class total. A member of Derbyshires cricket academy, he was one of the young players coach David Houghton wanted to expose to First-team cricket early, in the hope that his First-class career will be a long one. In his knocks for the Second XI he has already shown a pleasing ability to dig in and construct an innings, rather than being in a rush to flash shots all around the ground.
