Born on April 10th, 1930, former Pakistan allrounder Shujauddin has died at the age of 75.

 

He was a right-handed batsman with plenty of patience and a left-arm spinner.

 

He was one of the members of the first Pakistan team to tour England in 1954 when he played in three Tests with little success and made his Test debut at Lord's.

 

He finished the tour with 67 wickets (28.85) and 366 runs on the tour, including his maiden first-class century, a score of 135, against Somerset in Taunton.

 

At home he played regularly in Tests for Pakistan until the 1961-62 season. His best bowling performance was 12-61 for Sevices against Lahore in 1961-62, with 8-53 his best in an innings in the same match.

 

He served in the Pakistan army and was captured by Indian troops in the Indo-Pakistan War and incarcerated in a POW camp.

 

He played 19 Tests for Pakistan, scoring 395 runs (15.19) with a highest score of 47 against New Zealand in Karachi in 1955-56, and he also captured 20 wickets (40.05).

 

In a long first-class career that stretched from 1946-47 to 1969-70 he scored 3490 runs (25.28) with six centuries, and captured 319 wickets (21.98).
