Tall and lean South Australian medium-pacer, Geffery "Geff" Noblet, who represented Australia in three Test matches, has died at the age of 89 in Adelaide.

 

Noblet, who could swing the ball both ways, toured South Africa in 1949-50 where he made his Test debut in the fifth Test at Port Elizabeth when he replaced an injured Ray Lindwall.

 

He was unable to break into the strong Australian team of that period when Lindwall, Keith Miller, Bill Johnston and later Ron Archer were preferred.

 

He played two home Test matches, against the West Indies in 1951-52 in Adelaide and against South Africa at Melbourne a year later when both Miller and Lindwall were injured.

 

In Tests he captured 7 wickets (average 26.14), best 3-21, and in all first-class cricket between 1945-46 and 1952-53 he took 282 wickets in 71 matches (average 19.26), best 7-29.

 

He scored 975 runs (average 13.92) with a top score of 55 not out.
