With his all round skills Jacob Oram has been a tower of strength to the New Zealand team in the new millennium. With the ball his right arm medium pace bowling is both accurate and penetrative while with his left handed batting he contributes substantially to his teams cause late in the order. The tall and compactly built Oram has proved his skills in uncertain terms in both Tests and ODIs as underlined by his excellent record. Oram made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Wellington in 2001 and played in his first Test against India two years later. Since then he has been an integral part of the New Zealand side in both forms of the game. After missing his first Test century narrowly he was out for 97 against Pakistan at Wellington in 2003-04 Oram has gone on to hit three hundreds, two against South Africa and one against Australia. He packs quite a punch with his power packed batting and has a career strike rate of 73 in ODIs. With the ball he lends able support to the new ball attack in Tests by his ability to move the ball both ways and generally keeping even run hungry batsmen on a leash besides proving to be adept at breaking partnerships. But in ODIs he can be pretty destructive as proved by two five-wicket hauls.
