Jamie Dalrymple was the first international player signed by Matthew Maynard after becoming the Cricket Manager for Glamorgan, with the former Middlesex and England all-rounder agreeing to join the Welsh county for 2008 on a three year contract after turning down a new contract with Middlesex.

The off spinner and middle order batsman made his Middlesex debut in 2000 shortly before beginning his studies at Oxford University. In 2003 his forthright batting saw him become only the fourth batsman in cricket history to score a double hundred in the Varsity match as he bludgeoned the Cambridge attack for an unbeaten 236. A week later, he followed this up with a hundred in the one day match between the two university teams.

2004 saw Dalrymple win a regular place in the Middlesex side and he proved his worth in May with a career best 244 in the County Championship against Surrey at The Oval. Eight days later, he then shared a match winning partnership with Ed Joyce in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy against Glamorgan at Lord's, and ended the contest with his first one day hundred for the Middlesex side.

His accurate offspin also drew the attention of the England selectors who were considering a spin bowler for the one day side. In June 2006 Dalrymple was duly chosen in the squad for the NatWest Series against Sri Lanka, and he made his international debut in the warm up match against Ireland at Stormont. After some decent performances, he was chosen in the England party for the tour to Australia in 2006 and 2007, and his outstanding catch at backward point helped England secure the Commonwealth bank Series.

Dalrymple also featured in the England squad for the ICC World Cup in the West Indies during the Spring of 2007, but he only played in three games. After returning to county cricket, he lost his place as well in the Middlesex team towards the end of the 2007 season, and at the end of the summer, he decided to leave Middlesex and join the Welsh county.
