Rain has final say at Lowerhouse
by Robert Read

Scorecard:Lowerhouse Second XI v Ramsbottom Second XI

DateLine: 29th April 2008

With the rain pouring at Rammy, we met at the club thinking about a wasted drive up to Lowerhouse. However the rain eased off and this gave the officials and the groundsman a chance to get to work on a sodden ground.

After hard work and both teams wanting to start, play began at 2.45pm with a planned 38 over match. Winning the toss, an important factor on what would be an interrupted days play, we put Lowerhouse into bat.

Again, Dalbs and Jack W bowled very well on a low bouncing wicket. We took regular wickets whilst trying to limit the runs we would have to chase.

After a couple of rain breaks, we were in a strong position as we backed up our bowlers with some excellent ground fielding on a very slippery and drenched ground. Enter Ross Brown, finishing with 6 wickets with some clever bowling, staying cool with the Lowerhouse batsmen attempting to up the tempo as they knew they needed a few more runs on the board. Holty, picked himself up 5 victims with confident glove work. Ross and Andy working well together to restrict Lowerhouse 136 - 7 of 32 overs.

This was a great effort by the team in tough conditions. Ready to come out to bat and confident of a successful run chase, the rain came..................

A word has to be noted to both teams being eager to play and get a result, in what could have been an excellent game of cricket played by two strong sides. We look forward to welcoming Lowerhouse down to Rammy later in the season!!
